Weekly roundup 4 June to 19 June

My time on Bali has turned my daily routine upside down. It’s been a month with a lot of good experiences, both exciting and relaxing. There has, however, also been an undertone of imbalance. Between the very relaxed vibe on Bali, new and old friends, and a lifestyle quite different from the first 3 months of my trip, I’ve had a hard time finding room for my solo projects and interests.

The friend group in Canggu is chaotic, to put it mildly. Plans and times hold for a relatively short while before being replaced by something else. It’s very typical that I hear about 2-3 different plans for the day and evening. Often it ends up being a completely different plan altogether.

It says something interesting about me that I relax the most when I know and can trust a time and a group of people. So when it hits 8.30pm in the evening and we still haven’t left the hostel, even though the band we were going to see started playing at 7pm, I get restless. But that’s just how this group works, and probably Canggu as a whole. It’s very normal for people to go out in small groups, gather at a shared spot, and then split up again depending on who feels like doing what.

On top of that, I’ve quietly turned into a morning person over the years. I enjoy getting up early and getting going before most others. Canggu is not for morning people. It’s very normal to be out until 3-4 in the morning and get up at noon. When it hits 9-10pm in the evening, people are ready to party, and I’m ready to sleep.

The result is that my routines have been completely turned upside down or forgotten. I can’t really find the calm to sit at the computer in the middle of the day, and in the evening, when I would otherwise have been busy writing or working on projects, I’m out with friends. The morning has turned into workout/gym/brunch that lasts until midday.

These are in no way bad days. I’m having fun and having a lot of good experiences with people I care about. But I miss some of the rhythm from my earlier days on the trip. Time for the blog and a bit of game development. It gives me a lot to have some things simmering. Small things I build for myself. I feel that if I find the right balance here, I’ll hit on something that could work for me in the long run.

Bali loop

This week I went on a solo trip to see the parts of Bali I hadn’t seen before. Over 4 days I drove around the northern part of Bali. From the top of Mount Batur, to waterfalls, beaches and snorkeling. Here are a few clips from the days.
